The *Scientific Assistant* assists in the conception and implementation of research including collection, analysis, and interpretation of research data from experiments conducted in the field, with captive elk, and in the laboratory. The position will oversee operation of the captive elk facility and laboratory, and conduct research necropsies. Other duties include: sample collection, processing, and archiving; animal handling and health evaluation; assessing field and laboratory inventory and ordering supplies as needed; maintaining records on veterinary drugs; maintaining regulatory and safety protocols and records; maintaining a basic understanding of relevant literature; and participating in weekly lab meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with others, work independently, and keep accurate research records. A willingness to learn additional laboratory techniques and problem solve as needed for advancement of the research is important.
