Each year Clarivate Analytics determines the top 1% of researchers based on how often other researchers cite their work as a measure of their works’ impact on the worldwide research community. This year’s list includes seventeen scientists from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). They are among the most influential in the world. The laboratory scored particularly well in two of its specialty areas — energy storage and earth system science — with seven researchers making the list in each category. Jun Liu, a chemistry and materials science researcher, made the list for the seventh year in a row.
In addition, researchers from 60 countries made the list. Approximately 42% of researchers on the list work in the United States. That’s down 2% from the previous year as researchers recognized from mainland China increased from 2% to 12%.
