WHAT WE ARE AND WHAT WE PROVIDE
The Tri-Cities Research District is a 1,700 acre research park that was designated in 2007 by Governor Gregoire. It has five major property owners, Battelle, U.S. Department of Energy, Port of Benton, Washington State University -Tri-Cities and a private developer. The TCRD is recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest and the world as a place of innovation. There are over 7,000 workers within the district, and it is home to Battelle operated Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and the four-year and graduate degree campus of Washington State University (WSU-TC) which was recently named by Senator Cantwell as a FAA Center of Excellence for Biofuels.
The TCRD connects private sector companies, entrepreneurs and investors to a highly educated workforce of engineers and scientists to further develop, innovate and commercialize new products.
Unique facilities available in the district include the Applied Process Engineering Laboratory (APEL), a 90,000 square foot high technology business incubator; and WSU-TC’s Bioproducts, Sciences and Engineering Laboratory (BSEL), a “collaborator” with PNNL devoted to scientific R&D and process engineering from bio-based product manufacturing. In addition, PNNL’s Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) and unique Electricity Infrastructure Operations Center (EIOC) facility are available.
The TCRD is a 501 © (6) non-profit corporation managed by a 15-member board of directors that includes the cities of Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, Columbia Basin College, WSU TC, PNNL, Lockheed Martin, U.S. Department of Energy and State of Washington Workforce development.
The facilities, land, skilled workforce combine to offer a complete innovation eco-system ready to serve as a catalyst for technology innovation. Our goal is to assist pioneers in advanced technology research, develop, and implement commercial applications of new products and processes.
We serve world class researchers and global businesses focused on todays and tomorrow’s problems and opportunities.
The Tri-Cities Research District will:
